José Herrera: “This Málaga is able to compete against any team in this league”

The Málaga CF Femenino coach reviews the first round of Reto Iberdrola and highlights the work undertaken by Fundación Albacete: “The overall review is positive. I remain with what we saw on the pitch, we were superior to the rival”.

Match analysis

"There was an odd circumstance which stunned both teams a little as there were three substitutions for each team and only a minute was granted. I’ve never experienced this before, and we didn’t know how to react. It’s true that in the final minutes I believe the team was really going for it again and was about to score a goal. If we make a general analysis, I said at half-time that I didn’t know what would happen in the second half, but in the first half the girls showed a lot in terms of football, intensity, verticality. They did a magnificent job”.

Review of the first round

"The first round is over, and I’m left with the feeling that this Málaga is able to compete against any team in this league. The overall review is positive. Also, taking into account the draws we’ve obtained, they leave you with a bittersweet taste as these draws could have taken us higher up the table. However, I remain with what we saw on the pitch today. I believe Málaga were superior to Albacete”.

To be corrected

"The rival’s first goal was lucky and the second stemmed from a lapse in concentration in a set piece. We didn’t manage to hold on to the lead when we had it. However, the intensity the girls have shown was impressive, and I think everyone is thrilled with this Málaga. We haven’t lost since October 27”.

Santa Teresa, next rival

“The next match will also be a tough one, but it’s amazing how the girls have looked after themselves over Christmas, and how they’ve trained this week. I’m facing the match against Santa Teresa with all the guarantees and with the entire squad pumped up and raring to go”.
