Harsh defeat against co-league leaders (0-2)

Málaga CF Femenino lost out to Balears FC on Sunday in Rincón de la Victoria. Gabi and Nati Cano, from the penalty spot, led the rival to victory.

Despite the unusual kick-off time (16:00), there was a good crowd in the stands at the Francisco Romero ground on Sunday afternoon. On the pitch, Juanma opted for the following starting line-up: Andrea; Encarni, Ruth ©, Mérida, Yoli Peche; Marilén, María Cortés, Tati, Olmedo; Monterroso and Futu, the main new addition to the 11 in place of seriously injured Torralvo.

From the outset, MCFF competed one-on-one with one of the leading teams in the standings, although the first dangerous opportunity stemmed from Joaneta for the visitors (20') with a shot that Andrea deflected to a corner. This was practically the only clear opportunity for the opponent during the first half.

The initial 45 minutes ended in a cruel way for the Blue and Whites. Just before half-time, a penalty was awarded to the home side for a foul on ‘pichichi’ Futu in 43’. Monterroso stepped up to take the shot, but it went wide. A psychological blow that the team didn’t manage to overcome.

No sooner had the second half got underway, María Cortés had a chance with one of her usual direct free kicks that grazed the crossbar. Following another Malaguista opportunity, it was the rival that opened the scoring. An action inside the area saw Gabi beat Andrea (0-1, 60').

Juanma introduced changes to react to the goal, bringing on Nazaret, Carmen Gómez and Bertuchi between minutes 63 and 68, but again the rival didn’t forgive when they had the chance. Nati Cano was unmarked in front of the goal and Ruth tripped her up from behind, leading to a penalty. Nati Cano herself converted from the penalty spot to seal the result (0-2, 75').

Cadete, Carla Aguilar and Teté also participated in the final minutes of play, with a Málaga giving their all to narrow the gap, but the final score was a 0-2 defeat.

After 14 games in Segunda Federación Grupo Sur, MCFF are in 5th place, eight points behind the promotion positions occupied by leaders Madrid CFF and Balears FC (34 points). Next time around, the final match of the first round of the competition, the girls are away from home to third-placed Levante UD ‘B’.
