Duda staying with Málaga CF until 2014/15

Málaga Club de Fútbol and Sergio Paulo Barbosa Valente ‘Duda’, have reached an agreement to renew the team captain’s contract for another season, until 2014/15. The Portuguese-born left-winger has played the most First Division matches with Málaga CF, and is one of the most represented players from the Martiricos outfit. Duda says that staying at the Club is like a dream come true: “I’m so happy. I always wanted to be able to retire at Málaga Club de Fútbol.”

Statements by Duda
“I’m so pleased my contract has been renewed.  I always wanted to be able to retire at Málaga Club de Fútbol.  Both parties reached an agreement, that we’re both pleased with.  I hope to end my career here, having played at this Club for 13 seasons, which isn’t easy, but we’ve helped each other out a lot over the years.  My family and friends are happy I’m staying here, and now I’m going to focus on enjoying being at Málaga Club de Fútbol.”
Sergio Paulo Barbosa Valente, known as 'Duda', was born in Porto, Portugal on 27th June 1980.  Having played over 250 matches wearing the Blue and Whites’ shirt, he’s also played the most First Division games with Málaga Club de Fútbol.  His impressive technical ability, skill and leadership qualities have seen the left-winger become one of the most admired players amongst the Blue and Whites’ fans.  During his career at the Martiricos club, Duda is also one of the highest ‘Malaguista’ goal-scorers of all time in the First Division.

Duda arrived at Málaga Club de Fútbol in 1999/2000, from Portugal’s Vitoria de Guimaraes.  Following two seasons on loan to Cádiz Club de Fútbol in Second Division B, Duda returned to Málaga in 2001/02 for his first season with the Blue and Whites.  In 2002 he took part in the Intertoto Cup, and in 2002/03 he went out on loan to Second Division side, Levante Unión Deportiva.  On his return to the Martiricos Club, Duda had two very successful seasons, strengthening the team’s standing amongst the national football elite.
At the end of his contract, Duda had a short but intense time at Sevilla Fútbol Club, winning the UEFA Cup, the Copa del Rey and both the European and Spanish Super Cups.  Málaga Club de Fútbol’s return to the First Division saw the return of Duda to the Blue and Whites in 2008/09, this time on loan.  He went on to sign a new contract with Málaga Club de Fútbol, confirming his strong commitment to the Club, and sealing his place in Málaga CF history.  Duda will remain with Málaga CF until 2014/15 (with the option of another season).  Duda’s performance at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa with Portugal must also be highlighted, as one of the ‘Malaguista’ players with such a successful sporting career.
