Dissociation of Rafa Gil and Málaga Club de Fútbol

In his three years as trainer of Atlético Malagueño, Rafa Gil took the blue and white outfit to the play-offs for promotion to Second Division B on two occasions, to be precise 2008/09 and 2010/11, after qualifying in fourth place. Tenerife B, in the second round and Olímpic de Xativa, in the first elimination, ended any possibility of promotion for the malaguista squad. In the 2009/10 season, although Malagueño did not reach one of the top four places, the good performance from the players of Atlético Malagueño was key for the then head coach of the first team, Juan Ramón Muñiz, who gave eleven players from the reserves the opportunity to play in the first team in an official competition.

The until recent coach for the blue and white second team will not continue in the discipline of Atlético Malagueño, after managing the second team in Group IX Third Division for the past three seasons. Rafa Gil, who collaborated with the Technical Department of the Club, will also remain in the history of the Martiricos after being the interim coach of the first team, after Jesualdo Ferreira was dismissed and before the arrival of Manuel Pellegrini, and who managed the first team for one game at the Cornellá-El Prat against R.C.D. Espanyol, in a match that was supposed to be the 1,000th game in the history of malagueño football in First Division. Málaga Club de Fútbol would like to wish the very best of luck and success for the coach from Tolox in his professional career.
