Demichelis: “Seeing yourself in the top few positions is great”

Málaga CF’s Argentinean defender, Martín Demichelis, spoke to the media in La Rosaleda’s press room.

Demichelis’ statements:
(Triumph in Mallorca). “First of all seeing yourself in the top few positions is great.  The sooner you see yourself in the top few positions, the easier it is to move on and grow, knowing what it’s like to be there.  The match (Mallorca) wasn’t as well played as the one in Granada, but we didn’t give away chances to the opponent, which is a complicated team, and that was the most positive thing.  And the goal ended up being down to the collaboration of a defender, and that goal helped us to get the three, all-important points. To move up? It’s a relief and a great feeling, we always work towards that.”

(Ambition). “In these two meetings it’s going to be important to get the most amount of points as possible and to continue to move into the top flight; and why not think about getting to the op position?  Athletic is going to be tough and we’re going to have to pull out all the stops at home.  We feel very comfortable at home and that will help a lot.”

(Bielsa and Athletic). “As an Argentinean I’ve seen and read a lot about him, but I haven’t worked under him and I can’t really speak about him too much with first hand knowledge.  But I do know many players who’ve been managed by him and they all speak excellently of him.  He’s well-qualified and I have no doubt that Atheltic is going to fight to be in the first positions, as he’s a manager that has that winning streak. We all know the important players who they have in forward positions and we’ll have to take advantage of their defence and our own virtues.

(Fernando Llorente) “I played in two matches of  last season, the one we drew in and the one we had the opportunity of winning. I met Llorente who is a great player in the penalty area and is one of the fittest players in the league, and if I’m chosen to play, I’ll have my work cut out.  He’s strong and he’s an important player for Athletic, he’s coming into an ascension period in his career, but in Germany I also had to face many great players.”

(Strong defence). “To have a good attack you have to have a good defence. All eleven must be involved in putting pressure on the rival so it makes it more difficult for them.  The last game the opponent played they struggled with their defence.  Mathijsen? He’s a great player, I’m so happy for him and that he’s continuing to contribute so much to the team.”
