Málaga Club de Fútbol mourns the loss of the former first team coach during the 2006/07 season. Rest in peace, Marcos.
Marcos Alonso Peña (Santander, 1959) was a great player who is part of one of the most recognised families of Spanish footballers. He is the son of Marquitos, legendary Real Madrid CF defender, and father of Marcos Alonso, current player for FC Barcelona and the Spanish National Team.
Marcos, born in Cantabria, stood out at a very young age in the ranks of Real Racing Club (1977/78) and later made a career in two stages at Club Atlético de Madrid (1979-82 and 1987-90) and FC Barcelona (1982- 87), ending his career at Logroñés (89/90) and his former team Racing (90/91). He was an international on 22 occasions with Spain.
As coach, he managed Rayo Vallecano, Racing de Santander, Sevilla FC, Atlético de Madrid, Real Zaragoza, Real Valladolid and Granada 74, his last team in Spain. The penultimate was Málaga CF, under the presidency of Fernando Sanz, at the start of the 2006/07 season. During his brief time at the Club, in the Second Division, he accumulated four wins, one draw and five defeats in the first 10 games of that campaign.
The Entity offers its condolences to the family and friends of a football man who leaves us too soon, at the age of 63. Rest in peace.
