Condolences for the death of Juan López

The Club offers heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Juan López Fernández, CD Málaga striker between 1952 and 1955, who recently passed away. Rest in peace.

Born in A Coruña (30/10/1929), Juan developed his game with different teams in the city, debuting at 20 years old with Second Division side, Arosa SC, and passing through Racing de Ferrol, also in the Second Division.

In 1952, he signed to CD Málaga, newly promoted to the First Division, where he remained for three seasons. He debuted as a Malaguista on 14th September 1952 at El Molinón against Real Sporting, ending that season after playing 13 games and scoring five goals, all in the League. In 53/54, he scored 11 goals in the Second Division with CD Málaga, who ended in third place and took part in the promotion play-offs, with Juan scoring seven goals, including a double in the penultimate match (Osasuna 3-4 Málaga) which led to another promotion to the elite.

On 7th November 1954, Juan, along with Malaguistas, Lasa and Méndez, was included in a list of players for possible Spain line-ups. In the 54/55 season, he took part in 18 matches and scored eight goals. After playing 67 official games and scoring 31 goals, he signed to Deportivo de La Coruña, where he coincided with former Malaguista, Bazán, staying with the Galician side for a season. Juan López ended his career playing with Xerez CD, CD Eldense and Portuguese side, Sporting Espinho.
