Condolences following the death of Aguilar

José Aguilar Luna, a CD Málaga goalkeeper in the silver division during the 1975/76 season, passed away yesterday. The Club sends deepest condolences to the family and friends of Aguilar. Rest in peace.

Born in Marbella on 25th July 1950, José Aguilar debuted in the 1967/68 campaign with Atlético Malagueño under the orders of Antonio Carmona Ros. A couple of years later, he would achieve Third Division promotion with the Malaguista reserve team, under coach, Abdullah Ben Barek. Following another few seasons with the reserve team, he moved to Atlético Marbella in 1974/75.

In the 1975/76 season, with Milorad Pavic on the bench, he returned to Club Deportivo Málaga. Due to the absence of Meléndez (starting goalkeeper) and Corral, a keeper that CD Málaga intended to sign, but it never happened due to his liver problems – although years later he did join the Blue and Whites – José Aguilar debuted as a Malaguista player, number 277 to debut with CD Málaga since 1941.

His debut was on matchday 3 of the Second Division between CD Tenerife and CD Málaga, which ended in a victory for the home side by 2-1. The following matchday Palomo was Málaga’s starting goalkeeper, plus weeks later Humberto arrived on loan meaning there was a surplus of goalkeepers on the squad, so José Aguilar didn’t play another official match with CD Málaga.

Subsequently, Aguilar would end his football career playing for Motril CF, Gimnástica de Melilla and UD Melilla.
