Cifuentes: “We’re heartbroken for the fans”

The Málaga CF right-back spoke to MCFTV following the match against Deportivo and analysed the difficulty of winning the promotion play-off tie: “The team went out there how they had to go out, in the second half we were unlucky and the small details make all the difference in a tie like this”.

Head up

“We leave with our heads held high with the group we have, how far we’ve come and for the fans who have supported us all year. We’re upset for them yet proud of all this”.

The difficulty of entering a play-off

“The team went out there how they had to go out. We hardly gave the rival any options, we always had the ball and were in the attacking half, but it wasn’t to be. I think if we had scored a goal in the first half, we would have won the tie. In the second half we were unlucky, and the small details make all the difference in a tie like this”.

Group and personal assessment

“It’s been a good year, although obviously the objective was to return to the First Division. The team tried all season, we have been fighting to make it possible, to get where we are today. Even though we didn’t achieve our goal, I believe we can have a clear conscience that we’ve had a good year, but not an excellent one like we wanted. On a personal level I’m happy to have found the fans, I’ve enjoyed playing at La Rosaleda, with this team, as I wasn’t able to before. I’m leaving very pleased and indebted to the fans as they have really supported me, and I hope I can give them back all the affection they’ve shown towards me”.

Message to fans

“They must continue doing what they’ve been doing, although this time it wasn’t to be. I can say from my own experience that we are heartbroken for Málaga, the team, the city and the fans. However, with faith, determination and desire we will give them back the joy they deserve”.
