Benalmádena will reign in the Cup

The Costa del Sol municipality will accompany Málaga CF in the First Round of the Copa del Rey against Barakaldo CF (Wednesday 1st November at 18:00).

Málaga CF will debut tomorrow in the Copa de SM el Rey 23/24 at the iconic Lasesarre stadium. The rival, a record-breaking Barakalo CF. This team has gone 46 official matches without defeat, this being the highest historical record in national football. The Basque team has scored in all matches since March 2022.

For this match, Málaga CF will be accompanied by the municipality of Benalmádena. A new masterful work by the artist Puche will appear on the captain's armband and on the poster announcing the match.

Benalmádena is one of the key points of the Costa del Sol. Bathed by the Alborán Sea and surrounded by the Sierra de Mijas, Cerro del Castillejo and Monte Calamorro, it enjoys an absolutely privileged climate.

This municipality has three large urban centres that are as different as they are complementary, which make Benalmádena an ideal place for all. Its political capital is Benalmádena Pueblo, a haven of peace and tranquility. Its labyrinthine cobbled streets showcase their most native traditions featuring haute cuisine establishments and first-class residences. An exquisite experience for any visitor. In its central Plaza de España we find the statue of the Niña de Benalmádena; a bronze piece by the artist Jaime Pimentel (creator of El Cenachero in Málaga’s Plaza de la Marina).

A few kilometres away, towards the sea, we find Arroyo de la Miel. This is, without a doubt, the largest nerve centre of Benalmádena, since more than 53,000 of its residents live here. Connected by road and train, in Arroyo de la Miel we find the largest commercial activity in the town. Among its streets are the Plaza de la Tribuna, the Plaza de la Mezquita and the Parque de la Paloma (bordering Benalmádena Costa). Top attractions include Selwo Marina and the Benalmádena Cable Car (which connects to the top of Mount Calamorro). Although, without a doubt, all Malagueños fondly remember what until a few years ago was the jewel in the crown of children's entertainment on the Costa del Sol, the iconic Tívoli World amusement park (former Blue and White sponsor). This facility is currently closed, awaiting a definitive resolution for its future.

Continuing the itinerary, finally reaching the sea, we find ourselves in Benalmádena Costa. This enclave is idyllic for lovers of maritime life, whether recreational, sports or leisure. Its central point is the Puerto Deportivo de Benalmádena, also known as Puerto Marina. With 1,108 berths, it is one of the main ports in the country and has leading establishments in restaurants, fashion and nightlife.

Within its immense cultural heritage, Benalmádena features the Castillo Monumento Colomares. This tribute to the discovery of America, which was built by Doctor Esteban Martín y Martín, between 1987 and 1994, is one of the most visited architectural attractions on the Costa del Sol.

Puche, on this occasion, has highlighted the most international symbol of this attractive municipality, the aforementioned Niña de Benalmádena. With his unmistakable stroke, he has effectively recreated this sculpture by Pimentel that has ruled the Plaza de España since 1968. The sculpture is a fountain from which a delicate stream of water flows onto an aquatic bed to which the artist has given a maritime personality. She, Benalmádena, representing that sweet childhood, is displayed on an orange background and framed in a yellow ring, colours that make up the flag of this Malagueño municipality. Without a doubt, another true work of art.
