All square between Malagueño and Jaén in first leg (1-1)

Atlético Malagueño drew with Real Jaén CF, at the Federación Malagueña ground in the first leg of the first round of promotion playoffs to 2ª Federación. Juanmita put the Malaguistas in front in 61’ whilst Armengol went level in 92’.

With the presence of 400 travelling fans from Jaén, the ground was around a third full. On the pitch, Funes’ starting-11 consisted of Carlos López; Bilal ©, Murillo, Recio, Issa Fomba; Izan Merino, Álex Rico; Juanmita, Jesús Martín, Paco; Chupete. Andrés Caro, who sustained injury during the previous match in Maracena, was absent as a precaution.

The first clear chance for Malagueño came in 11', generated by the most active players this Sunday. Juanmita, with his devilish speed, and Issa Fomba, who sent the ball over the crossbar. Jaén tested Carlos López in 20', and the Malaguista goalkeeper made a great dive to save Adri Paz's attempt.

After the first third of the match, Paco tried his luck in 31' with a shot from the edge of the area from a Bilal pass. In 38', the visitors hit a ball against the crossbar following a defensive clearance on their own goal. Intensity, rhythm and equality with the scoreboard remaining at 0-0 at half-time.

In the second half, Funes' men looked hard for the 1-0. Juanmita had it in 52' with a shot near the left post. The number '7' reappeared in minute 58 with a trademark move that led to the left profile, where Issa Fomba escaped from several rivals and narrowly sent the ball high. Immediately afterwards, they exchanged roles and the goal arrived. A great action from the baseline by Fomba, who assisted Juanmita to finish with a header into the net (1-0, 61').

In the final stretch, Moussa returned to the pitch, coming on in 84' in place of Juvenil player, Izan Merino. Three minutes later Javi Moyano from the visitors was sent off. Despite being a man down in the closing stages of the game, Jaén managed to go level in stoppage time with a goal from Armengol (1-1, 92').

With the final 1-1 tie, Malagueño will need to win at the Nuevo Estadio La Victoria next week to advance to the next promotion tie. In the event of a draw at the end of regulation time in Jaén, the match will go to extra time, and if the score remains equal there will be no penalty shootout, since Real Jaén would go through to the next round, having qualified 2nd in the group (Malagueño was 5th) in the regular league.
