Adrián, quality and experience for the remainder of the season

The Málaga CF attack is reinforced with Adrián López, who arrives on a free transfer until the end of the 21/22 season. The forward from Asturias was part of the Club in the historic 08/09 season.

Following a period of physical readaptation and fine-tuning at the Club's facilities, and two weeks integrated into the squad at a good pace even without federative registration, Adrián is now part of the Blue and White first team and will be available for tomorrow's match against Girona FC.

Explosion in Coruña and Málaga

Adrián López Álvarez (Teverga, Asturias, 1988) is an experienced striker with great talent to associate, dribble and define with quality. He trained in the Real Oviedo youth categories and in 2006/07 signed to RC Deportivo. He scored his first and unforgettable goal in the elite, with a beautiful picadita against Víctor Valdés, at just 19 years of age at Camp Nou against FC Barcelona (03/31/2007).

He was loaned out by Deportivo for two years to gain experience. In 07/08, in his only professional spell in the silver division, he played for Deportivo Alavés. The following 08/09 season he arrived at Málaga CF, who enjoyed a spectacular season being recently promoted to the First Division. Adrián made La Rosaleda fall in love with his football, and was key to Antonio Tapia’s team reaching 8th place in the league.

Titles with Atlético de Madrid and Portugal

Following another two years with Dépor (2009-11), Adrián signed to Club Atlético de Madrid. With the colchoneros, during three successful seasons, he won the League, Copa del Rey, UEFA Europa League, European Super Cup, and ended his time with Atlético as runners-up of the UEFA Champions League (2013/14).

He subsequently moved to FC Porto. He belonged to the prestigious Portuguese club, one of the most recognised on the European continent, from 2014 to 2019. In 2018 he added the Portuguese Supertaça (Super Cup) to his record.

Villarreal, return to Dépor and Osasuna

Adrián continued his solid career in the elite with two seasons at Villarreal CF (2015-17) and another excellent individual campaign back at Deportivo de la Coruña (2017/18). Disassociated from Porto, he completed another two more seasons in LaLiga Santander with CA Osasuna (2019-21). In the Spanish First Division, in total, he has played 314 games (195 in the starting-11) and scored 44 goals.

International success with the youth teams

Adrián López, whilst with Atlético de Madrid, was an international on two occasions (one goal) with Spain’s first team. With the Under-21s he was proclaimed European champion in 2011, won the Golden Boot of the competition and formed part of the tournament’s Ideal 11. A few years earlier, with Spain’s Under-20s, he won the Silver Boot in the U-20 World Cup held in 2007.

Welcome home, Adrián!
