Weligton: “We have everything to expect great things”

Weligton Robson Pena de Oliveira speaks to MCFTV about the past, present and future of Málaga CF, as they face the ninth consecutive year in LaLiga.

Memories of 2007/08

“We were eleven signings, I remember the presentation, we were all unknown, and surprisingly we achieved seven victories out of seven consecutive matches.  The dream of promotion was then created.  I’ll never forget the look on people’s faces, the employees and everyone who feels the Club’s colours.  I will always remember that moment.”

Continuity in the elite

“The Club had been promoted, it was a year of uncertainty as many people didn’t believe we’d achieve permanency.  It was a success and we secured our place in the First Division with numerous games remaining.  The following years, despite financial difficulties within the Club, with great strength and dedication we’ve reached nine years (in the First Division).  Now, not just us, but also the fans, are enjoying a great team.”

The Club’s good health

“They are doing things right.  Financially things are much better, and this can be an advantage facing other teams; we can form a competitive squad and fight for European positions.”

Historic season in defence

“Matches are won when we concede the fewest possible goals, and thanks to our hard work this season, we’ve become a solid team that’s difficult to beat.  Opposing teams face an uphill struggle in their quest to defeat us, and we’re far better than we were in previous years.  We have everything to begin a new season and expect great things.”

A young veteran

“As long as the Club wants me, the coach wants me, and I’m able to continue, I’ll be here.”

Message to the fans

“Without them we’re nothing.  I thank them for everything they’ve done for us, for the trips many of them go on and the difficulties there are, they are always supporting us.  Thanks to you all and I hope the fan base continues to grow more every day.”
