Three sparks lead UD Las Palmas to victory (1-3)

Málaga CF lost out to UD Las Palmas, at La Rosaleda, on LaLiga Santander matchday 3. Viera, Calleri and Remy scored for the Canary Islands rival. Diego González got the Blue and Whites’ goal.

There was an excellent atmosphere in the stands, and three new additions on the pitch, as Míchel included Diego González and Fede Ricca in defence, as well as Keko on the right wing. In the 10th minute, the Blue and Whites generated their first shot at goal, with a Borja header that was well-targeted by rival keeper, Chichizola. The visitors had their first appearance in Roberto’s area 10 minutes later, with a high shot, deviated by Tannane.

Homegrown player, Mula, in the 26th minute, tried his luck with a long shot that just sailed over the crossbar. In 33’, again Mula attempted a left-footer in a forced shot. Immediately afterwards, Rosales compelled Chichizola to make a solid save following a cross shot from the right. However, it was UD Las Palmas who opened the scoring just before half-time.

Halilovic led from the left and combined on the other side with Viera, who slammed the ball into the back of the net after hitting the post (0-1, 45’). At the half-time whistle, the visitors were in the lead.

MCF equalised no sooner had the second half got underway. A free kick by Recio set up a header for Diego González, who scored in his home debut as a Malaguista (1-1). The fans, spurred on by their team’s goal, really got behind the players. Ontiveros, in place of Keko, was the first change made by Míchel, in minute 60 of play. In minute 63, Roberto diverted a shot by Halilovic to the crossbar, preventing the second goal for the visitors.

The two Málaga-born players on the squad, Ontiveros and Recio, both propelled dangerous shots in 68’ and 69’ respectively. A minute later, Calleri put the Canary Islands rival back in front with a goal following an individual action (1-2, 70’). Straight after, there was a double substitution for the Blue and Whites. Cifu, in his first official match with the Club and En-Nesyri, replaced Rosales and Adrián.

Borja in 74’ had a promising chance with a header from inside the area to go even. Roberto, in 79’ and 85’, saved two clear opportunities generated by Viera. However, he was unable to stop the third goal for the visitors, the work of Remy, to seal their win (1-3, 88’). The third defeat for MCF this season, who still have no points at the start of the competition.
