The number ‘7’ returns to La Rosaleda

Sunday 2nd April marks 25 years since the charismatic Juan Gómez ‘Juanito’ passed away. The shirt of the Fuengirola-born player will be shown during the run-up to #MálagaAtleti.

Juan Gómez González ‘Juanito’, born on 10th November 1954 in Los Boliches (Fuengirola), wore the Blue and Whites’ shirt with CD Málaga in the 1987/88 and 1988/89 seasons, in which he scored a total of 16 goals, and achieved a brilliant promotion to the First Division. In addition, Juan Gómez was Technical Secretary of CD Málaga in the 1989/90 season, and the majority of 1990/91, when he returned to the field of play to retire with CD Los Boliches, in Second B.

This Saturday 1st April, Málaga CF will welcome Club Atlético de Madrid for the 29th LaLiga Santander match. Juanito’s original CD Málaga shirt will be present at the foot of the pitch before kick-off. The shirt from the 1987/88 season, when the team achieved First Division promotion, will be exhibited in Málaga CF’s Museum & Tour from next Monday.

Additionally, the Club was present at the traditional floral offering which took place today, Thursday, in Juanito’s home town of Fuengirola. Club advisers, Abdullah Ben Barek and Francisco Martín Aguilar; member of the MCF Foundation’s Social Department, Sebastián Fernández Reyes, ‘Basti’; and first team coach, Míchel González all attended the tribute to the eternal Malaguista number ‘7’.
