The MCF Foundation recognises three Malaguista legends

Málaga CF handed out season tickets to 'Bernardi', Borredá and ‘Coco’, three ex-Blue and Whites’ players who formed part of the Malaguista expedition that suffered an aviation accident in September 1956.

The MCF Foundation continues its recognition of Blue and Whites’ legends, who with their dedication and sacrifice, wrote the history of the Málaga squad.

Club advisers, Abdullah Ben Barek and Antonio Benítez presented the players from the 50s and 60s with their season tickets; Bernardo Narváez González 'Bernardi', Gonzalo Borredá Donat and Diego Rodríguez Sánchez ‘Coco’.

On 29th September 1956, the CD Málaga expedition departed for Tenerife on a four-engine flight, to take part in the 4th Second Division match of the season against the island rival. After making a stop in Las Palmas, as they approached Los Rodeos airport, in a nearby area known as Los Baldíos, the plane touched the ground, instantly causing a fire on the aircraft.

Miracle

The aeroplane, with 33 people on board was miraculously saved, however the same cannot be said for the owner of the property where the plane came down, who was killed in the accident.

The match, scheduled for the 30th September, was postponed for a few days, finally taking place on 2nd October 1956. The game ended in a 2-0 victory for CD Tenerife.
