Match preview: Málaga CF-Valencia CF

Málaga will welcome Valencia to La Rosaleda for the 33rd LaLiga Santander match of the season. Kick-off is on Saturday 22nd April at 13:00.

The match will be officiated by Iglesias Villanueva, who refereed Valencia-Málaga in the first round of the competition, which ended in a 2-2 draw. The Galician-born ref has officiated Málaga CF 13 times in the elite, resulting in six victories, four draws and three defeats for the Blue and Whites.

Málaga CF and Valencia CF have locked horns 15 times at La Rosaleda in the First Division, with four victories, four draws and seven defeats for the Malaguistas.

  • Dely Valdés scored the second hat trick of any Málaga CF player in a First Division match against Valencia CF, in the match held on 13th May 2001 (3-0)
  • Valencia CF was the first team to visit La Rosaleda in a First Division match, on 4th September 1949, winning by 1-2.
  • Between the 1934/35 and 1935/36 seasons, Juan Ramón, Iturraspe, Lelé and Otxoa were players with Valencia CF, and years later went on to be CD Málaga coaches.

 

The first Málaga CF-Valencia CF

On 30th October 1999, the first Málaga CF-Valencia CF took place at La Rosaleda. It was the 10th First Division match of the 1999/00 season. Edgar made it 1-0 in minute 27, whilst Claudio López equalised in 67’, to score the definitive 1-1. Joaquín Peiró selected the following Malaguista line-up: Contreras; Rojas, Bravo, Larrainzar, Valcarce; Rufete (Ruano ’66), De los Santos, Movilla (Sandro ’67), Agostinho (Darío Silva ’74); Edgar and Catanha.
