Match preview Atlético-Málaga

Málaga CF is visiting Club Atlético de Madrid tomorrow for LaLiga Santander matchday 4. Kick-off is at 20:45, marking the premiere of the Wanda Metropolitano stadium.

The match will be officiated by José María Sánchez Martínez, who has refereed Málaga CF on three away dates in the First Division, resulting in one victory and two defeats. This will be the first time the Murcia-born referee will officiate a match between these rivals.

Inauguration of the Wanda Metropolitano stadium

#AtletiMálaga will re-inaugurate the Wanda Metropolitano stadium, previously known as Madrid’s Estadio Olímpico, which housed certain football matches, as well as other sporting disciplines. This will be the first time Málaga CF will take part in an inaugural match at a stadium in the top flight of Spanish football. Coincidentally, since 16th September, in this case it was 2013, a First Division stadium hasn’t been inaugurated (Nuevo San Mamés).

Precedents

The first official match between CD Málaga and Atlético de Madrid (then called Atlético Aviación) was also the first visit to the Metropolitano stadium, which was Atlético de Madrid’s home between 1923 and 1966. This match corresponded to the return leg of the first round of the Copa del Generalísimo.
