“We’ll need to go all out; Espanyol have made a good team”

The Málaga CF keeper, who returns to his former home, is excited about the start of the season: “The combination of young and experienced players makes a great mix.”

Carlos Idriss Kameni (10/02/1984, Cameroon) attended to the Club media to analyse the start of LaLiga.  The Malaguista goalkeeper also talks about the upcoming match against RCD Espanyol, the squad and the exciting season ahead.

First LaLiga match of the season

“I think we played a good game.  The weather and the state of the pitch affected play, but that’s no excuse.  We had a successful pre-season to ensure we were ready to face the season in the best way.  The draw leaves a bittersweet taste, but we’re well aware of the hard-fought matches we’ll be faced with.  We’ll need to fight to the death in every game until the end, in order to claim victory.”

Match against RCD Espanyol

“It’s always a special match coming back to my old ground and seeing my old team, but I’ve been at Málaga five years now.  People talk about things like that, but as time moves on, you don’t have the same level of curiosity about the past.  You approach the match in a different way.  We’ll need to go all out, as Espanyol have made a good team.  The game will be hotly contested.”

New Espanyol

“They have strengthened the squad considerably.  They’ve changed coach, as well as 7 or 10 players.  They know LaLiga very well, but we’ve also got some new signings.  The players that have arrived here are helping us a great deal.  If we do the job the coach wants us to do, we can win.”

2016/17 season

“We’re approaching the season ahead with great enthusiasm.  The last two seasons have been good.  We came close to Europa League positions.  Now something different is in the air, we’re all full of ambition and have the feeling that we can do something new.  The team has been strengthened in a good way, with young players who are incredibly keen.  The more experienced amongst us are even more eager to continue at the same level, as we compete with the others, so I think this combination makes a great mix.”

Aarón and Samu Casado

“We had a wonderful pre-season with Paco, the goalkeeping coach, who knows these boys and knows how to work them to get the most out of them.  We all get along so well, and they are so keen to learn.  I think that with the quality they’ve got, and with a lot of hard work, they’ll be amazing goalkeepers.”

10 out of 10 fanbase

“These fans can do no wrong.  I’ve seen it all since I came to Málaga.  Both in the Champions League stage, and during the time of transition, they responded so well.  They’ve been behind us and always supported us.  This is a rare thing, as you don’t see it at all grounds.  The new players know that they’re playing at a Club which the fans truly love, and our supporters will help us to achieve great things.  We saw the other day that despite the Feria and the intense heat, they were there supporting us from start to finish.  With them by our side, it’s like having another player, and we’ll do well.”
