Fruitful day for the Malaguista Veterans

The Association of Ex-Málaga football players enjoyed an action-packed day this 21st May, including a distinction for one of the honorary presidents, Antonio Benítez.

On a sporting level, the Blue and Whites’ Veterans were successful in the final phase of the Liga Solidaria FEAFV-Southern Area, held at the Manuel León de Castellar de la Frontera (Cádiz) sports complex.  In the semi-finals, Málaga defeated Recreativo de Huelva by 6-2, with goals from Manolo Gaspar, Curro and ‘doubles’ from Nacho Pérez and Loren Zúñiga.  In the grand final, the Malaguistas were victorious by 3-2 against Fuengirola, with goals from Dani Campos and the ‘pichichis’ in the final round, Nacho and Zúñiga.

The culmination of a great season in which the team stayed undefeated in the Andalucían competition, and now look to another objective: the Final Stage of the 7-a-side Spanish Championships, taking place in Valencia on 18th June.  Málaga will be hoping for the FEAFV national title, with Athletic Club, Elche CF and Valencia CF as rivals.

In the afternoon, the Málaga Veterans won the friendly match against the CD Alhaurino Veterans.  The result was 0-2, with goals from Guillermo and Richard within the 7-a-side Charity Tournament, held at the municipal ground.

Both the Council for Sports of Alhaurín el Grande, as well as the Un Sí Por La Vida (‘A Yes for Life’) Association (a non-profit organisation based on the fight against cancer), awarded MCF Club adviser and honorary president of the Veterans, Antonio Fernández Benítez with a commemorative plaque to mark his sporting career and coaching work in Málaga CF’s grassroots football.  Abdullah Ben Barek was also given the same distinction, but was unable to collect the award as he’s with Atlético Malagueño ahead of tomorrow’s match in Vilafranca del Penedés (Barcelona).
