Doctorate in the history of Málaga CF

The MCF Foundation and Image Technology Centre (CTI) are working to recover historic photographs of Málaga football and La Rosaleda stadium.

Look to the past to continue building the future. Under this pretext, the collaboration agreement between Málaga Club de Fútbol and the CTI was born. The objective is to recover images from throughout the Club’s history, to collate, in the ‘La Rosaleda in 75 images’ exhibition, the past and present of the Blue and Whites’ Entity.

A project that got underway a year ago, and in which historian at the MCF Foundation, Domingo Muñoz, works side by side with members of the CTI to increase the Málaga CF archive.

A slow and laborious process, which begins by studying “the negatives through a viewfinder, to catalogue them by dates and scan them”, says Muñoz. Once the images have been digitalised, they are restored and improved.

“We remove any scratches and dust, and we give more contrast to the photographs, treating them by area. In effect, we return the texture that has been lost over the years”, states José Bernal, from the Image Technology Centre.

Mercedes Jiménez, responsible for archiving and documenting at the CTI, affirms “we are very pleased with the work we’re developing with Málaga CF. There are numerous important photographs referring to the life of football in Málaga, and the Club wanted to collect all this material for the ‘La Rosaleda in 75 images’ exhibition”.

An exhibition that will visit the province throughout summer, to bring Malagueños ever closer to the history of the Blue and Whites’ stadium.
