Al Thani: “We needed a victory like this”

The Málaga CF president speaks to Bein Sports about the win against FC Barcelona: “Before the match, I had the sensation that we could get a good result, and the team did so in the best way”, he says.

President Sheikh Abdullah Bin Nasser Al Thani yesterday became the longest-serving president of the Club in all denominations, with 2,479 days, and there was no better way to celebrate this milestone than with a victory against FC Barcelona”.

Following the match, Al Thani spoke to the operator with LaLiga television rights, Bein Sports, and spoke in Arabic to journalist, Achraf Ben Ayad: “I hope this victory serves us to a definitive end. Following the victory against Sporting, we played against Barcelona at our ground and needed a result like this. Above all, we claimed three very important points, to improve our situation in the rankings. Thanks to God for this victory,” says the president.

“I had a feeling we were going to win today. Thank God we scored two goals and we perhaps could have scored more. We achieved an important win. The team did what they had to do, and with Míchel at the helm, they’re doing a great job as a team, the players performed perfectly”.

He also spoke about Míchel, the Blue and Whites’ coach this season and the next, and who has guided the team to two crucial victories this week against Sporting and FC Barcelona: “The decision to contract Míchel was fantastic, everyone is seeing the results. Thank God the team changed 180 degrees, I congratulate them all,” affirms Al Thani.

In addition, the president spoke about Atlético Malagueño, who have been proclaimed group champions: “We now have a leading reserve team in their competition. They are in the Third Division, have won the competition with a significant lead, and are now in the running for promotion to Second Division B”.

This year, Málaga CF could surpass their current record number of seasons in the First Division, which currently is nine, and the president also talked about the future of the Club: “We started from scratch in the Club. We didn’t want the results to come too quickly, and then we fall down as has happened before. We moved up rapidly and then came down, that’s the mistake we don’t want to repeat. We want to achieve stability and above all, a good foundation. With a strong foundation, we can grow, and our intention is to return to Europe. It won’t be easy, but it will come in time”.
