The youth academy team suffered a 3-1 defeat in the return leg of the Copa del Rey Juvenil knockout round against CF Damm. The rival made it an uphill struggle for the ‘Malaguistas’ in the first half as they took the lead thanks to a goal from Doncel. Erik Expósito gave the Blue and Whites hope at the start of the second half, who gave their all in order to qualify, however it was the Catalán-based side that sealed their victory with two goals in the final minutes of play.

The youth academy team is heading to Barcelona this afternoon for tomorrow’s return leg Copa del Rey knockout stage game against CF Damm, kicking off at 12 p.m. In the first leg, Ruano’s boys kept the dream alive with a 2-2 draw, following an initial 0-2 lead by the rival.

The official competition has come to an end and the post-season tournaments now get underway for La Academia teams. One of the ‘juvenil’ sides is heading to Stemwede (Germany), whilst the 7-a-side teams are in Spain and France to take part in five tournaments. The I Andalucían Intercultural Sports Tournament is taking place in Cártama Sports City on Saturday, paying homage to Club adviser, Ben Barek (12 p.m.)

There’s an important weekend ahead for Málaga CF’s youth teams. Atlético Malagueño begin their Second Division B promotion play-offs, whilst the ‘Juvenil División de Honor’ boys are facing the return leg of the Copa del Rey knockout stage against CF Damm (first leg ended in a 2-2 draw). The ‘Alevín’ team is taking part in the knockout round of the Andalucía Clubs Championships, whilst some of the 7-a-side teams are bringing forward their games in order to compete in various international post-season tournaments next weekend.

Teams in Málaga CF’s youth academies achieved the following results over the weekend. Málaga’s CF’s ‘Juvenil’ boys clinched a draw with CF Damm to keep the Copa del Rey Juvenil dream alive, the return leg of which will take place in Barcelona. The ‘Cadetes’ were knocked out of the Coca-Cola Cup following goalless draws in both group games. After a 1-9 defeat against UD Mortadelo, Málaga CF’s ‘Benjamin A’ boys were proclaimed Group 2 champions of the ‘4th Andaluza’ division.

The youth academy team got off to a shaky start in the Copa del Rey Juvenil knockout stage against CF Damm. A goal from Alfred in the first half for the rivals, and an Arnau penalty led to an uphill struggle for the ‘Malaguistas’. A great goal by Mérida and a subsequent penalty by Luis Muñoz equalised for the Blue and Whites, with the tie being decided in Barcelona next weekend.

Spain’s under-17s lost out to Germany on penalties in the European quarter-final of the category, held in Bulgaria. Following a goalless draw after 80 minutes, the Germans made no mistakes from the 11-metre mark, whereas Spain missed twice.
