A great triumph of extraordinary valor (2-0)

Málaga CF won against FC Barcelona, at La Rosaleda, in the 31st match of the LaLiga Santander. The goals by Sandro and Jony marked a historic victory: the 200th of the Club in the First Division.

A great atmosphere in the stands of La Rosaleda, where there was a minute’s silence before the clash in memory of the recently deceased ex-Malaguista José Pons. Míchel included three new faces to the eleven who won three days ago against Gijón: Juankar, Recio y Juanpi. Barça as usual, went onto the pitch with their by now defined model of play based on ball possession, against a ficused Málaga who were mainly focused on defensive work.

After the first quarter of an hour, came the first opportunity in which Kameni saved a shot against Luis Suárez. In minute 23, after an unfortunate pass to Stegen on the wing, Recio took advantage of the first Malaguista shot with a certain danger. In the second chance, Sandro couldn’t make exception for his former team. The striker won with his speed against Mathieu and worked it all to his favour, scoring the first goal (1-0, 32’). It was this high-scoring player’s ninth goal in LaLiga for the Blue and Whites.

In the 42nd minute, in a fast action, Juanpi kicked it over the crossbar proving his value. Llorente, in the 45th minute, almost got a revenge shot against Camacho and with the public behind him as the half time whistle blew.

As the second half got underway, Luis Enrique took the bull by the horns, placing Sergi Roberto and Iniesta instead of Mathieu and Denis Suárez. Málaga’s plan for the match didn’t change, with compact lines in order to contain the situation against their rival. Messi, in minute 56, tried a shallow shot from the front. A minute later, against a backdrop woven by Fornals and Sandro, in which Juanpi played a decisive role, shot towards Stegen’s side.

In minute 60, Neymar launched to the bar, third change for the Catalans with Alcácer coming on for Gomes. In minute 63, Juanpi again tried with a dry shot and shot that just missed by a hair’s breadth. Shortly afterwards in minute 66, Peñaranda went on for his compatriot, Juanpi, in order to strengthen the Malaguista attack.

The very same Peñaranda scored in minute 71 but his goal was later voided by the ref. In minute 76, a mega ovation for the substituted Sandro who left his place for Charles. The ‘9’ barely on the pitch, managed a quick counter attack. In minute 83, the last Blue and Whites change saw Jony coming on for Juankar.

And then it was the very same Jony who sealed the amazing triumph. Pablo Fornals, sublime, launched a lethal counter attack with the asturian for this Stegen (2-0, 90’)

On the day that Sheikh Al Thani became the longest-serving president, MCF secured its 200th victory in the First Division, now achieving 33 points in LaLiga Santander.
