Málaga Club de Fútbol’s Roque Santa Cruz caught up with the fifth stage of the Tour of Spain as the cyclists reached Ronda. The ‘Malaguista’ striker took part in the prize giving ceremony, presenting the current leader, Michael Matthews with the race mascot and a Blue and Whites’ shirt, to commemorate 110 years of football in Málaga.

Málaga CF is visiting the Mestalla Stadium for the 14th time this Friday, a location where the Blue and Whites have never won a match. The more positive results were a 1-1 draw in 2008/09 and two 2-2 draws in 1999/00 and 2004/05. However CD Málaga did win on one occasion, in 1954/55, by 0-2.

Málaga CF’s Sergio Barbosa Valente ‘Duda’ and Vitorino Antunes have been sanctioned by the Royal Spanish Football Federation, with a two-match ban and one-match ban respectively. Both players will miss out on Málaga CF’s next League game at the Mestalla ground on Friday 29th August against Valencia CF, and the ‘Malaguista’ captain will also miss the following home game against Levante UD at La Rosaleda.

Málaga Club de Fútbol’s Sergio Sánchez held a press conference after this morning’s training session, and talks about last Saturday’s victory: “This win reinforced what we’ve been working towards over the pre-season. It’s given us further confidence in our objectives and those of the coach, and is a big motivation to keep working hard and maintain the same level of ambition.”

The high end-of-August temperatures didn’t let up for the Blue and Whites this morning, as they returned to training at the Ciudad de Málaga stadium ahead of the second League game of the season against Valencia CF.

Málaga Club de Fútbol was back to work this evening at the Ciudad de Málaga athletics stadium. This morning’s session was predominantly physical, whereas this session focused on ball work as well as defence-attack transitions.

Following the team’s first League victory of the season, the Venezuelan-born defender hopes the team will continue getting better: “This is just the start, we’ve got a lot of things we need to improve on, but I’m pleased with our win against Athletic, as it was a real team effort.”
