Pellegrini: "We’re going to have to play a very good game to come away with three points”

Málaga CF coach, Manuel Pellegrini, held a press conference in La Rosaleda this morning, a day ahead of the first League match against Celta de Vigo, tomorrow at 7 p.m. in Balaídos.

Statements

(Start of the League) "The team had a good pre-season with regards to fitness and their performance in the friendly games.  We’re been working for the past 40 days, and tomorrow we’re up against a high level team, excited to have returned to the First Division after five years.  They’ll have their fans supporting them throughout the match, and I’m sure they’ll make it tough for us.”

(Celta) "Every team in the Spanish League plays a strong match at their home ground, and Celta have the additional motivation of their recent promotion to the Elite Division.  They play good football, show great ball possession skills, and we’re going to have to play a very good game to come away with three points.”

(Fabrice in the line-up) "I don’t think his age is an important factor, this player has a very bright future.  He was with us for the entire pre-season, and is a significant addition to the line-up.”

(Joaquín) "Joaquín was injured yesterday as he ran into one of the barriers at the side of the training ground, however I don’t think there’ll be any problems with him playing in tomorrow’s match.”

(Champions League play-off) "There were lots of people waiting to purchase tickets for Wednesday’s match when we arrived for training this morning.  This is going to be an historic match for the Club, both in sporting and economic terms, but we’re concentrating on the fact that we could be participating in two competitions at the same time for the first time in Málaga’s history.  If we solely concentrate on the Champions League, and take our eye of the ball in the League competition, we’ll be in a very uncomfortable position.  I have complete faith in every single player, and the majority of those playing in tomorrow’s match will also be playing on Wednesday.  The team is ready and highly motivated to gain the first three points of the season, we then have Sunday, Monday and Tuesday to recover before the Champions play-off.  We’re just concentrating on Celta at the moment.”
