Olympiakos - Málaga

Málaga CF draw 3-3 against Olympiakos

The friendly match between Málaga CF and Olympiakos, champions of the Greek League, ended in a draw tonight. Despite the Blue and Whites on the score board first, the locals soon retaliated and were 3-1 up. However Pellegrini’s men pulled out all the stops to equalise in their last match of the second pre-season tour of Italy and Greece.

Málaga CF began the first half in the Georgious Kaiaskakis stadium, pumped up and full of motivation, putting pressure on the home team in midfield.  Lady Luck was smiling down on Málaga – dressed in their black second strip for the first time – as a Duda corner led to an own goal from Papazoglou.

Cheered on by their fans, Olympiakos were quick to retaliate, leading to an impressive save by Kameni in the 8th minute of the match.  Refusing to be intimidated, a cross shot by Bounanotte nearly landed keeper Megyera in trouble.  However 30 minutes in and Mitroglou put the pressure on the ‘Malaguistas’, keeping Kameni on his toes.

At the start of the second half, the Blue and Whites had two clear chances at goal, and another great shot by Isco following an impressive tackle, hit the bar.  Olympiakos continued to cause problems for Pellegrini’s men, including a powerful header saved by Kameni.

Mitroglou scored the equaliser for the locals in the 55th minute, with a fantastic display on the right wing.  Olympiakos found a renewed energy after this goal, and Mitroglou scored their second goal, to see them in the lead by 2-1.  A shot at goal by Camacho, just before the second Olympiakos goal, was declared offside.

The Athens-based side also had their fair share of luck, and Manolas scored their third goal in minute 78.

All was not lost for Málaga CF, and impressive play in front of the penalty area between Bounanotte and Eliseu led to the latter scoring the second goal for the Blue and Whites in the 80th minute.  The crowd in the Georgious Karikakis stadium erupted into applause.

The visitors had the chance to equalise in minute 86.  A powerful shot from Toulalan following great individual play by Eliseu, was saved by the Athens keeper, leading to a corner.  Following several minutes of play around the penalty area, the local side had a fantastic opportunity to score and seal their victory, but it wasn’t to be.

With just seven seconds of extra time remaining, Málaga equalised with a fantastic pass from Eliseu to Joaquín, which was stopped by a defender, but Sebas sealed the deal and scored their third goal, with the match ending in a 3-3 draw.
