Sevilla - Málaga

Málaga fell down in Seville in its league debut (2-1)

Málaga Club de Fútbol was defeated 2-1 in its first BBVA league encounter against Seville Fútbol Club at the Sánchez Pizjuán stadium.  Málaga was caught out in the first stages of the match: Álvaro Negredo headed an unstoppable ball to the back of the net, after a right pass from Jesús Navas.  Despite the unfavourable start, Málaga fought back and looked for the chance to equalise.

Manuel Pellegrini’s squad went from less to more in the first half, taking control of the game.  At the point the Blues and Whites neared the Seville goal, Negredo again took the ball to the edge of the area, and put their rivals in the firing line as the scoreboard went to 2-0. Málaga did everything it could without success to close the gap on the scoreboard.

In the second half, Pellegrini was looking for a change of fortunes.  Not even Joaquín’s moves nor Maresca’s header were able to really challenge Javi Vargas’ goal. But Seville didn’t stop taking advantage and continued disturbing Caballero’s area, before Negredo took pleasure in knocking the ball to the left hand side of the Málaga goal in minute 67.

Seville, playing well on the pitch and with the scoreboard in their favour, didn’t excessively complicate Málaga’s attempts, but they couldn’t do anything to stop Cazorla’s masterful free-kick that put the ball to the back of Javi Varas’ net. From that moment on, Málaga’s took its nervousness to the stands of Nervión, but this uncertainty didn’t translate into any more clear chances to score an equalising goal. In the end, the first game of the 2011-2012 season remains as a defeat.
